Have You Got an Archaeological Quest for Time Team?

Time Team is always on the lookout for fascinating new sites, hidden stories and archaeological mysteries waiting to be explored.

Perhaps you've spotted something unusual on LiDAR imagery, uncovered an intriguing feature in your local landscape, have some strange lumps and bumps in or near your village, or know of a site that deserves closer investigation. Whether you're part of an archaeological society, a local history group, a community project, or simply that you have a passion to uncover the archaeology on your doorstep, we'd love to hear from you.

Some of the most exciting discoveries begin with local knowledge. If there's a site, earthwork, building, field, or archaeological puzzle you'd like Time Team to either investigate in 3 days or report on in the Time Team Podcast, send us your suggestion, with as much detail as you can and tell us why it matters.

We can help you uncover the stories hidden beneath your feet and shine a light on the archaeology of your area.

Research sources: 

• Local/Council Archives and Historic Environment Records
• Heritage Gateway: Utilises Historic Environment Record datasets, and will identify if any recorded archaeology, historic buildings or monuments are present. Click link “more detailed search” - find your site on the map, click on it and then search the area.
• Aerial Photos: Free to access historic aerial photographs
• The Rural Settlement of Roman Britain (if researching a Roman site). Excellent map resource and monograph series outlining Rural Roman archaeology in Britain.

Map sources:

• National Library of Scotland map resources
• Consider the 25 inch to the mile and higher for more details of landscape features, 6 inch maps are also very good and typically more available.
• Old Maps Online
• Google Earth: Provides a much more detailed satellite image in compared to Google Maps. Option to search historic satellite images that may reveal more landscape features.
