Magic Moments: No. 2

In our ongoing series, team members share their memories of poignant moments on Time Team, continuing with our resident landscape archaeologist Stewart Ainsworth. “The most rewarding dig for me was at Wierre Effroy in France. We wanted to find out why the pilot of a Spitfire plane had crashed and we had his step-brother on the programme because he also wanted to know. We were able to establish the circumstances in which the place was shot down. I was telling him what had happened and we both got a bit tearful. He held my hand under the table and told me how much it meant to him to know what had happened.” (Stewart Ainsworth, landscape archaeologist)
