Mass child burials discovered in Peru

Hundreds of infant burials have been discovered in Peru. As reported in The Telegraph, the site in Huanchaco, which contains the 500-year-old remains of 227 children, is said to be the site of the 'largest ever child sacrifce'. These are just the latest in a series of similar finds, with hundreds of other child remains found in the area in recent years. It's thought the children belonging to the Chimu civilisation were offered to the gods to appease them for the El Nino weather phenomenon, which is known to cause devastation in the region. Some of the skeletons have evidence of their hearts being removed as part of the ritual killings.
