Time Team Digital has partnered with Shadow Tor Studios to create Time Team Games, with support from the UK Games Fund.

This exciting new venture is now in the early stages of development, following the awarding of a grant from the UK Games Fund.

Time Team's creator and Series Producer, Tim Taylor, says: “Time Team is incredibly excited about partnering with Shadow Tor to create a game that brings the skills and strategies of archaeology to life, in an environment that has the excitement of a Time Team dig combined with the thrill of solving the games and puzzles of a computer game.”

Shadow Tor creates games and interactive environments, crafting a unique blend of gameplay, history and archaeology. Matt 'Bear' Clark of Shadow Tor, who recently joined Time Team, says: "Shadow Tor Studios are in a unique position, as a game studio, we are already working alongside Time Team archaeology investigations, being on site and part of the digs, capturing 3D finds and crafting historical recreations of the past for the TV show. Extending this work into creating Time Team Games will be an exciting step forward. We have the amazing opportunity to expand as we make Time Team Games, based on the popular archaeology TV series.”

Tim continues: “For a long time we’ve looked to convert the excitement we all feel on a Time Team dig into a computer game that matters. It’s not about finding treasure or shiny stuff, it’s about understanding, learning, developing skills and attitudes that will enable the player to suddenly understand what really matters in archaeology through the Time Team format, which has been so successful worldwide.”

Matt says: “As part of this project development, we aim to grow and further partnerships, such as on-going work with University of Plymouth, and we look forward to hearing from many more.”

More details of Time Team Games will be announced as the project develops.

"The past, we believe, still has lessons to teach us..."

Join the archaeology adventure in Time Team Games. Time travel from your own home as you discover and resurrect the past. Investigate alongside TV’s Time Team experts, uncovering archaeological mysteries and piecing together clues. Play each role in a Time Team dig; place trenches, identify finds, study bones, reassemble pottery, rediscover long forgotten artefacts and much more, as you uncover clues to solve the site’s mystery.

Time Team Games allows you to join a dig through an interactive and guided investigation archaeology experience. You uncover the clues of the past through progressive puzzles and dig site activities, building towards a ‘whodunit’ climax.

"The future is the past..."

  • Time Team Games are founded in, and built upon, real Time Team archaeology digs, featuring genuine discoveries and digitally recreated artefacts, genuine sites and an interactive Time Team crew.
  • Delve deeper into history with the Discovery Mode, as Time Team experts are always on hand to answer questions, keeping you informed, investigating and learning more about what you have uncovered.
  • The more discoveries you make, the more questions need answers. Who occupied a site, what events occurred there and what happened to the people of the past.
  • Be guided by archaeology in your own progressive discoveries. As the information comes together, step in and out of a  resurrected  in-game ‘virtual past’ – a historic recreation of the site.

About the UK Games Fund award

“We are thrilled to have been awarded by the UK Games Fund. With the recognition and support, we can develop upon a unique and distinctly UK-based brand on Time Team and take new games to a worldwide audience. The partnership will allow us to expand, and take on new UK-based employees. We aim to set up a game from which we can build a franchise, adding further dig locations, VR editions and digital interactive content exploring wider archaeology sites around the globe.”
