A huge thank you to everyone who made our Colour Clough excavation at Kielder such a brilliant three days! ⛏️
Over this dig and across 6 trenches, our team have been piecing together the story of the Colour Clough sheiling - a fascinating glimpse into how communities used this remote Northumberland landscape over time. We've traced its development from the establishment of the enclosure through to phases of agricultural activity, and the OSL dating results have thrown up some brilliant new questions we can't wait to dig into further. Our Time Team members will have first access to this when released!
It wasn't an easy site, with tough terrain, wet conditions and a fair bit of hard graft - but the whole team - Time Team and Forestry England - dug in (literally) with enthusiasm, good humour and real professionalism throughout. That's what made it such a rewarding X-Crew dig.

Thank you to everyone who supported, excavated, recorded, surveyed, hauled equipment, braved the Northumberland weather, and inputted into the dig - it was fantastic to have our Time Team Members on Patreon have their questions on the live dig answered. Thanks also to the crew covering filming and operations on site and to our office team for organising a brilliant base camp.
Great site, great company, and genuinely some of the most spectacular night skies you'll see anywhere in the UK ✨. Now its time to pull together all the footage and we can’t wait to show you the release in the future.
A fantastic few days in Kielder - thank you all for being part of it!
